Very well written book that will appeal to all ages. The characters are fun and well developed. Prepare to be transported from NYC to Venice and experience all of Venice from a mouse eye view. With all of the detail of the city and canals I feel like I was there and didn't have to buy a plane ticket to experience it! Full of fun, suspense and humor. Can hardly wait for the next one!

A "page turner" with enchanting, colorful descriptions of characters, clothing and settings! I loved the view of Venice from the air and the suspenseful interactions of the primary characters the mouse and the bat.
You'll enter the world of the small creatures and their amazing adventures when you read this first of the Darklings trilogy. High adventure, a mystery, and a bit of romance will keep you engaged until the last page. Gabriella, a mouse with an amazing singing voice and even more amazing exploits will entertain readers of all ages.
3-Mice Productions have such a neat logo this Darklings just has to be a good book and it doesn't disappoint. A tale of many mice, the odd rat, and some bats as well, C. D. Davis' story is filled with excitement, adventure, mystery and romance. The dialog is as deliciously flavored as the names of the characters. And the venues are wonderfully evocative.
The author receives a mystery box from a friend. It contains tiny documents, diaries, newspaper clippings and more, all dating from around 1912. And their story tells how the new Contessa d'Asaigo rises from American rags to Italian riches without losing her natural kindness and sense of what is good.
Filled with gently amusing names such as Mr. Cheeseworthy, Mr. Fiddlestring and the estimable Mozarella, enhanced with nicely placed footnotes that teach and explain while making the reader smile, and built on finely woven details of opera, transport, architecture and the complex subculture of small well-dressed animals, this tale will take you and your mice on a sea voyage to Venice, into the lofts and onto the roofs of great houses, to the opera house and into the skies. It's a fast-moving tale, fascinating, fun and delightful. And the classic message of love overcoming misunderstandings and mistrust is beautifully told.
Highly recommended for young readers who want a little more, and parents too.
